Visiting the Sick – Bikur Cholim
Jewish volunteers from area synagogues have been visiting Jewish patients at Long Island College Hospital on Shabbat since 1995. Congregation B’nai Avraham has always had the largest representation in the organization.
Following an initial visit with an experienced volunteer, new volunteers undergo a one-hour orientation and then qualify for an official hospital ID. Visits are scheduled once every eight to ten weeks using an online shared spreadsheet that can be modified by the volunteers to reflect changes in their schedules.
Those interested in joining the core group should contact Naomi Weinberger at (718) 855-0909 or at weinbergers@yahoo.com.
